I will abide by the principles of good
sportsmanship in all Siberian Husky competition and activities and make
an effort to befriend and mentor newcomers to the breed.
-
I will read and accept the American
Kennel Club Siberian Husky standard as the only standard for the breed
and will attempt to adhere to this standard when breeding and
exhibiting.
-
I will strive to keep abreast of
hereditary defects, structural faults, and deviations from the breed
standard and I will strive to eliminate them from the breed through
careful and selective breeding practices.
-
I will not breed, or breed to, any
Siberian Husky which has not been OFA certified (or OFA preliminary
x-ray cleared) or Penn-Hip evaluated and had their eyes cleared by a
Certified Canine Ophthalmologist within a year of the date of breeding.
The Camino Real Siberian Husky Club strongly recommends that the minimum
age for breeding of either a dog or bitch be at least 18 months and that
no bitch be bred more than six times nor be bred after the age of eight
years old. The Club strongly urges that each member/breeder consider
first and foremost the health of the bitch when considering breeding an
older bitch which has had multiple litters.
-
I will not knowingly breed or exhibit
dogs possessing serious genetic defects such as, but not limited to:
hip dysplasia, laterally luxated patella, epilepsy, juvenile cataracts,
corneal dystrophy, progressive retinal atrophy, etc., or that has had
any surgical and/or cosmetic enhancements to include dyeing, tattooing
(except for identification purposes), braces, tail alteration,
implantation of false testicles, etc. Structural faults are readily
identifiable and that is the basis on which dogs are judged at
exhibition or for breeding. The genetic defects and weaknesses in the
Breed described herein are not readily identifiable by the eye. We
must, therefore, rely on the OFA, the Certified Canine Ophthalmologist
and the genetic testing as well as the personal integrity and ethics of
the individual.
-
I will take the time to explain to all
prospective Siberian Husky owners/purchasers the disadvantages as well
as the advantages of owning a Siberian Husky as well as their
environmental needs. I will explain the responsibilities incurred in
breeding including health screenings, care and placement.
-
I will provide all new owners with a
written contract which provides them with a health guarantee and include
a spay/neuter agreement on all pets placed or sold. I will sell all pet
puppies on the AKC Limited Registration.
-
I will include a “Return” clause in my
contracts on all dogs leaving my possession that they must be returned
to me if the owner cannot keep them. I will take whatever steps
necessary to recover possession of any dog I have bred, sold or given
away that I am advised of that is in a shelter, humane society or breed
rescue.
-
I will, before entering into any
breeding agreement, carefully analyze the conformation and pedigrees of
the prospective sire and dam and, keeping the Breed standard clearly in
mind, I will refuse the mating, if in my opinion, it will not be in the
best interest of the Breed. If I deny the service, I will fully explain
my reasons to the owner of the bitch.
-
I will not deal with, sell or give away
dogs to dog wholesalers, pet shops, shelters, humane societies, rescues
and laboratories or in litter “lots”. I will not offer dogs for raffles
or auctions. I will include in all stud contracts and puppy sales an
agreement to be signed by the new owner or owner of the bitch that no
puppies resulting from the mating will be sold or given away or used as
described above.
-
I will provide all dogs in my care with
adequate and clean living facilities, daily exercise and routine health
care. I will be alert for abnormalities and will provide proper
treatment for any health problems and/or disease.
